Our mission is to support and empower communities to secure local self determination and self-governance rights, superior to corporate power, in order to protect fundamental rights, quality of life, the natural environment, public health, and safety.
COCRN is currently assisting with the creation of rights-based organizations across Colorado. Our goals are to create a strong rights based movement across the state to protect public health, safety, public welfare, and the environment. In 2014 and 2016, COCRN worked hard to get a state community rights constitutional amendment on the fall ballot.
Both COCRN and the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) are ready to assist groups with getting rights-based organizations started in their local areas when the community’s fundamental rights are being violated. Examples include polluting corporate industrial projects such as fracking moving into town, or rights issues like a very low minimum wage that doesn’t allow workers to afford basics like housing, food, and healthcare, or establishing the rights of homeless people in the community where they live.
